  "Hey, S!"
It was the next morning and SR was sitting eating her breakfast in the kitchen as Silver ran in, and nearly hit the wall opposite as he ran into the room. S looked up as he managed to stop himself. She noticed he seemed to be worried.
"S'up, Silv?" queried SR, her mouth half full with cereals.
"I can't find Tanya anywhere.""Good God, you're still not mad about her beating you so badly?"
"No," said Silver, coldly, "I just couldn't find her at all, not even in her favourite sunbathing spot. She always goes there to warm up before a long day."
" Hmm... Can't say I've seen her anywhere." S replied, as Sonic sped into the room. He glanced over.
"Watcha guys doin'? Talking about me?" grinned Sonic.
S and Silver folded their arms and said in unison, "In your dreams!"
Sonic shrugged, smiling. "Meh, can't win 'em all. So, what were you guys talking about?"
  "Tanya's gone missing." S replied.
Sonic frowned "Wow, second strange thing today."
"What was the first? What was the first?" Silver burst out, making no attempt to hide his desperation to find any trace of Tanya.
"It was Greg. First time I saw him, he was walking down the hall, with a real stony face, worse than I've ever seen. The next time I saw him, he was in the gym, working out feverishly, muttering "Must get stronger." Now, I can understand if a guy wants to get stronger, but then he moved on to sword fighting techniques, real violent strikes, not something Greg does. After all, he is a pacifist." Sonic replied. SR gulped down the last of her cereals.
"'tis unusual, definitely. Silv, I'll keep a lookout for Tanya. As for Greg, I'll see what he's up to. Who knows, perhaps he's taking up contest fighting?"
Going their separate ways, SR chucked her bowl in the sink for whoever's turn it was to wash up. There were more pressing matters than mere dishes.

A while later, Greg was deep in the middle of training, his brow creased into a ferocious frown. He had moved from weapon to weapon and was currently training with a weapon that he had brought with him. It was a weapon favoured by his clan, a long, curved sword with a shielded hilt. The  blade itself seemed to shine with an inner flame.
Greg paused for a second, then sprang into a flurry of attacks, slashing, parrying, each time hitting the practice dummy so hard and fast, splinters flew from its wooden body. With a final, brutal slice, Greg stopped and looked at the dummy. It fell into two perfect pieces. He grunted.
"Not enough," Greg murmured, making his way to the water cooler near the door. As he reached for a cup, he realized SR was standing in the doorframe, with Sonic watching from behind her, and Silver likewise watching intently. Greg rounded on them.
"What are you guys doing here? As far as I knew, only S uses this place for sword practice on the weekend." Greg shifted slightly.
SR started to speak, but Silver cut through her. "Several things have gone strange. Like Tanya. Well, not like Tanya, I mean..." but SR glared at him, before continuing with what she was saying.
"Greg, things around here have gotten strange, and your behaviour is one of them. Do you know about what's happening?"
Greg grunted and picked up a spear from the weapon pile, testing its balance, then, with unerring accuracy, he threw it at the smallest target board at the other end of the room, where it stuck, quivering in the bull's-eye. He then looked back at them and replied rather bluntly, "Not a clue. What are the brothers Grimm doing here?" He stared pointedly at Sonic and Silver, who had been in turn staring at him so stonily they could be mistaken for gargoyles. At his question, however, they started and looked at the floor sheepishly. SR rolled her eyes.
"Silver is... interested in where Tanya is, and Sonic just wants to get to the bottom of this."
"I'll bet. And how, pray, did they reach the idea that I might know?"
Well, for a start, your behaviour at the moment is... out of the ordinary for you, to be frank."
Greg appeared to ponder something, but only for the briefest of moments.
"So basically some minor problem gets everybody rattled? She'll turn up."
SR replied, somewhat sharply, "and you don't care where she is?" she softened her tone slightly, "we need to know if there's something happening. If you won't tell us, fine. But we will be looking, and so should you."
SR left, with Silver and Sonic tailing behind her like lost lambs. Greg shifted uncomfortably. How long would this take?

SR padded along the passage, thinking deeply, when suddenly a question occurred to her. She rounded on Silver.
"OK, we've established that we don't know where Tanya is. What I don't get is why you're so anxious to find her. You two aren't... going out, are you? S asked slyly. To her utter amazement, Silver actually blushed.
"Well, I... I mean..." he stammered, "w-we, aren't exactly, you know... but I... I might, er... Ask-"
"-her out."S finished, shaking her head in mild disbelief. Here in front of her was the most perverted member of the group, embarrassed by a simple question about relationships! This was the third strange thing to happen. She turned to Sonic.
"Okay Sonic, I'll be needing your speed for a while. You've got to scout in and around the building for any sign of Tanya. If you can think of anywhere else she might be, look there. Report back here in an hour. Oh, maybe you should check the forest, she may be hanging out there."
Sonic nodded, his face grim. SR was surprised. This had to be a serious problem for Sonic to stop messing around.
As they split up, SR found herself thinking "something must be terribly wrong for Greg to act so bluntly."

Throughout the mansion, you could feel the tension building up. Greg continued with his training regardless; he was determined to be ready for battle, even if it was in the now very heavy rain. He had already used a wide range of weapons and was on the crossbow, the final weapon in the pile. Grunting, he hefted the crossbow up, took aim at the smallest target, and-
  "Hey S!"
Greg scowled. So like Sonic to distract him. Still, Greg lowered the crossbow and went into the hall to hear the conversation. Sonic was murmuring something to SR and Silver.
"Are you quite sure-" started S, then realised Greg was there. She turned to him.
  "Sonic hasn't found Tanya."
  No surprise there.
"But he came across two odd travellers camped in the woods." S looked at Greg. He was staring fiercely at a point on the wall, shaking terribly, as if to explode. As calmly as he could he looked at S.
"They're mine," he said, "and nobody is going to stop me."
And with that, he stormed out into the rain, leaving the others wondering what happened.

At this same moment in Greg's bedroom, Tanya slowly came around. She thought over all Greg had said while she was paralyzed, then focused her attention to her situation. She proceeded to punch as hard as she could against the lid of the box until finally the wood splintered. Pulling herself free, she wondered how to get out of the room; presumably Greg had locked it. To her surprise, Greg had yet again left the door open and the book on his bed. After a moment's thought, she took that and ran towards the hall and voices, all the way thinking, "Greg's never alone. He's got us."
The next installment of my fanfic. As before, Sonic and Silver are SEGA's, SR and Tanya are Shadow-Phoenix-Rider's and Greg, Kom and Odo are my own. enjoy!

I\'ve got a bad feeling \'bought this. If you go and get yourself killed, I\'m just gonna say \'Told you so.\'.

Ah, I kid. But I am slightly nervous at what\'s gonna happen! Only slightly, though.
